Letters, 1876-1881.

Letters of a farmer and log driver in the late 19th century. Most of the letters are to his wife "Birdie" and two of the letters are from her to her husband. Included also are letters to Fred from his brother and from R.C. Pingree & Co. in 1876. Fred's letters to his wife describe his life as a log driver and advise her about work on the farm.

Fred H. Allen was born about 1849 in Stetson, Maine and worked in a sawmill and as a log driver. He married Laura Maria Page of Levant, Maine in 1875. She lived with her father George W.
